Andargachew Tsige to be Released on Amnesty

Addis Ababa May 26/2018 Andargachew Tsige and other persons who were in prison suspected of terrorism will be released on amnesty, the Federal Attorney announced. The suspects would be released in line with the decision of the government, Federal Attorney General Brehanu Tsgaye said. Andargatchew is one of the leaders of Ginbot 7, an organization labeled by the House of Peoples Representatives as a terrorist group. Andargatchew, who was sentenced to death for committing terrorist criminal offense, was detained as a suspect of terrorism in June 2014 at Sanna Airport. Cases filed against persons suspected of corruption were also dropped, the Attorney General added. It is to be recalled that on May 11, cases against 62 suspects including Dr. Fikre Maru were also dropped by the Attorney General. The release of all the suspects followed the decision passed by EPRDF’s executive committee decisions made in view of expanding the political space.
