Elites Need to Draw Lessons from Forefathers in Sustaining Nat`l Unity: Religious Fathers

Addis Ababa  April 04/2019 Ethiopian elites and the youth have to take lessons from the historic and long-term resistance of their forefathers on how to maintain national unity in diversity, Religious Fathers said.

Melakehiwot Abba Woldeyesus Seifu from Addis Ababa Hagere Diocese told ENA that Ethiopians need to recognize opportunities like this that may occur once in a century. So, everyone has to collaborate to properly employ the opportunity to consolidate national unity.

“Irrespective of our differences in color, language, ethnicity among others, we have to transfer the values of unity in diversity to the coming generation,” he noted.

According to Abba Woldeysus, the youth have to forward their demands without damaging the country`s historic and long-term values of tolerance and national unity.

“We religious fathers have to teach the values of love, unity, tolerance among others for our respective followers,” he underlined.

The culture of mutual cooperation and sharing traditional ceremonies such as coffee is gradually fading away and this has to be an awaken call for every level of the society, he elaborated.

Hussien Beshir, an Islamic religious leader from Bole Sub city, said no religion doctrine stands against peace. The youth have to use their rights bearing in mind their obligations as well.

Ethiopia, which has been proudly protected by its forefathers from the Western colonizers, has been a source of pride for all Africans and the black people all over the world.

According to Hussien, now the country has become the sources of diverse disputes which emanated from the activities of the so called ‘elites or scholars’.

He urged all scholars, activists and other parties to properly utilize their time and resources to consider public grievances and justifiable demands of Ethiopians.

A religious father, Melaketsion Komos Abba Estifanos, said “right now unity in diversity is the only option for all Ethiopians.”

Ethiopians should evade any hatred speech that emanates from narrow ethnic based differences to realize the long-term ambitions of the country, he emphasized.

“We religious leaders have to take our responsibility and teach the new generation and lead them on the right track.” Abba Estifanos stated.
