Addis Ababa March 21/2019 The responsible parties for the delay of Repi Waste-to-Energy Plant, which was inaugurated last August before its completion, should be held accountable, some members of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) said.
The facility consumed 120 million USD and was initially planned to generate up to 50 MW of electric power a year. But the design was revised and its generation reduced to 25 MW.
Though it was publicly stated the plant has gone operational, the project has not yet started generating power.
Stating the delay of the project for two years against the plan, some members of the HPR called on the executive body to hold those responsible for the mismanagement of government and public resources accountabe.
Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister Sileshi Bekele said that activities a task force are established to investigate gaps related to the project.
The project needs additional 10 million USD to be completed, he added.
The facility is built on the Koshe landfill site located on the outskirts of the capital, Addis Ababa. It was launched in 2013 as a municipal solid waste incarceration plant.
