Lucy Begins “Peace and Love" Tour

Addis Ababa February 21/2019‘Lucy for peace and love’ tour program has launched today at a ceremony held in the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) Hall in the capital.

The tour will cover the whole Ethiopia and in some East African countries.

IGAD member countries such as Kenya, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, South Sudan and Republic of Sudan as well as Uganda are among the countries included in the tour.

On the bid of farewell, HPR Speaker, Tagesse Chafo, said the tour aimed at promoting African unison and help African to understand their ancestral lineage traced back to Australopithecus Afarensis commonly known Lucy or “Dinkinesh”.  

Noting that “Ethiopians are tied with the rest of the world through over 3 million years old Lucy (Denknesh),” the Speaker added, Lucy is the symbol of Ethiopians and could be an instrument for bringing peace and love in the region.

Minister of Tourism and Culture, Hirut Kassaw said on her part that the tour will also help to strengthen national peace and unity beyond a positive image building.

Launched in Addis Ababa, Lucy for Peace and Love tour will be carried out to its origin in Afar Regional State today, she pointed out.

The tour will continue to some East African countries in its one year travel around the region, it was learned.

Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives and Deputy Speaker of the House of Federation including senior government officials presided over the parting ceremony.
