The Deep Reform in ENDF Aims at Ensuring Ensure Professional Development, says PM Abiy

Addis Ababa February 14/02019 The deep reform that have been taking place within the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) is to ensure professional development of the army, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said.

The month-long celebrations of the 7th Ethiopian Defense Force Day wrapped up today with colorful celebration held in Adama city, Oromia Regional State.

Addressing the ENDF Premier Abiy, who is also Commander In Chief of the ENDF, highlighted key reforms in the defense forces has been to build professionalism over political allegiances. Abiy expressed pride in the ENDF as well.

“For the past one year of the reform the ENDF officials have undertaken deep reforms to fill gaps and other problem, thus, the defense force is among the major successful institutions which have shown results,” he noted.

Ensuring civil rights protection was among the major reform made as it is the foremost criteria to evaluate in building professionalism in defense, he added.

He assured that the defense force professional development happens when it keeps its professional excellence and grow without being affiliated to the ruling executive power at anytime.

Prime Minister Abiy urged the entire people to respect the defense force which emerged victories at all the challenges in the past, present and future.

On the top of serving the nation, Abiy said the defense forces have been also taking part in peacekeeping mission in various countries, which were successful in sustaining peace with great discipline.

As part of to professionalize and modernize the defense forces, he called upon Ethiopia’s youth interested in the military seize the opportunity and contribute to modern institution building and technological excellence.

Chief of Staff of the National Defense Force of Ethiopia (ENDF), General Seare Mekonen said on his part that the day strengthen the bond between the defense force and the people of Ethiopia at large.

The ENDF has undertaken profound institutional reforms based on the principles of the constitution of the country that will facilitate the building of a sturdy professional army, he noted.

The defense force is enhancing itself with technology and internal structure to safeguard the national integrity as well as peace and stability of the country, the general pointed out.

The National Defense Force day was marked under the theme: “We will maintain constitutional loyalty and public base to sustain ongoing reform.”
