African Union Unveils Emperor Haile Selassie I Statue

Addis Ababa February 10/2019 Emperor Haile Selassie, one of the founding father of the then Organization for African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU) has got commemorative statue here in Addis Ababa in the compound of AU Headquarter.
Statue of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I was unveiled by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other African leaders including African Union Commissioner, President of Egypt, Rwanda, and Ghana among others.
The statue is a significant recognition to the contribution of Emperor Haile Selassie I for the liberation and unity of Africa leading up to the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963, it was indicated.
The Emperor was also a mastermind behind the so called Pan-Africanism movement that aims to encourage and strengthen bonds of solidarity between all people of African descent worldwide.

The statue that has been already erected would help Africans to commemorate and be committed for Emperor Haile Selassie’s robust pan-African legacy to see a united and prosperous Africa, it was indicated at the imaginational ceremony.
Tha last King of Ethiopia, Emperor Haile Selassie I, led the country from 1930 to 1974 until deposed from power by Mengistu Hailemariam.
It is recalled that the statue of former Ghanaian President, Kwame Nkrumah, was also built within the African Union compound a few years ago for his contribution for the foundation of OAU.
