Addis Ababa February 01/2019 Both public and private media could face the consequences unless they comply with the law in discharging their responsibilities, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said.

In response to questions of MPs today, he said “the media should mainly provide balanced reports and not cause conflict among people.”

Abiy pointed out that capacity building measures will be conducted to enhance professional capacity for the public media at the federal and regional levels.

Moreover, joint consultative meetings between private and public media will be organized to identify and solve the problems, the PM stated.

“Much work is yet to be done by the media to promote democracy and take the people-to-people relationship to the next level,” he noted.

The premier called upon the media to refrain from causing conflicts among the people to serve the agendas of groups and individuals.

Media should focus on boosting the relationship among the people of Ethiopia, Abiy stressed, adding that “the government should support them as many might tend to take advantage of their financial shortage.”
