Taskforce Established to Prevent Flood Induced Damages

Addis Ababa May 21/2018 The National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRM) has established a taskforce to prevent damages that may occur due to flooding caused by the sporadic rainfall in most parts of the country. Early Warning and Emergency Response Acting Director at the Commission, Almaz Demssie told ENA that most of the country will continue experiencing floods that may continue in the coming rainy season. She said the taskforce has alerted the relevant ministries and institutions to take the necessary preparations to prevent disasters that may follow the rains. According to her, the taskforce is drawn from various institutions, including ministries of health and agriculture. She stressed that communities should clean drainages and take all other necessary measures. Dire Dawa Administration, Harar Region, central parts of the country, and highlands of Oromia and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples regional states may be affected by floods, Almaz stated. She indicated that the taskforce will also make efforts to prevent damages caused by over flooded rivers.
