Sahilework Zewude Becomes Ethiopia’s First Female President

Addis Ababa October 25/2018Ambassador Sahlework Zewde, a top official with the United Nations (UN) swore in as the new president of Ethiopia today. Sahilework became the first female to take the presidential position in the modern history of Ethiopia. Ambassador Sahlework replaced Mulatu Teshome, who has been serving as president since 2013 after he took over from his predecessor, President Girma Woldeghioris who is in retirement now. It is to be recalled that the HPR has earlier approved a cabinet in which women comprise half of the ministerial positions.
