ADP Ready to Play Role in Leading Reform

Bahir Dar  October 03/2018 The Amhara Democratic Party (ADP) is ready to play its role in leading the ongoing reform at regional and national level, Demeke Mekonen, Chairperson of the party said. While closing the 12th ADP congress being in session for five days, Demeke said ADP has come with a new spirit to lead the reform and address challenges that the region and the country face. Demeke, who is also Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, said the current struggle of ADP is mainly to sustain the journey towards development and democracy and realize the ongoing reform. Saying that a reform without the supremacy of law could be disaster, Demeke emphasized the need to make the country favorable for all. "Our country needs to be conducive for all. To make our country conducive for all, we, the children of the country from corner to corner, should struggle," he said. In this regard, dedicated leadership is crucial to implement the decisions of the congress and lead the ongoing reform, the chairperson noted. In this regard, ensuring law and order will be ADP's priority as part of creating a conducive situation for all Ethiopians, Demeke added. To gain sustainable result, the ongoing reform should be lead centering the supremacy of law and justice, Demeke pointed out. Noting that promising results have been gained from the reform so far, Demeke said it is important to maintain the momentum and consolidate the reform with the active participation of the public. In this regard, ADP has come with a new spirit to play its role of leading the people of the region for the benefit of the region and the country. Saying that the public is demanding for a greater change and leaders who will show the direction, Demeke added that his party is ready to be a real leader in the quest to development and democracy at regional and national level. In its five-day deliberations the 12th congress has discussed many issues, pass resolutions and elect central committee and executive council members. Demeke Mekonen, Gedu Andargachew, Dr Ambachew Mekonen, Binalf Andualem, Tefera Derbew, Dr Yinager Dessie, Melaku Alebel, Dagimawit Moges, Migbaru Kebede, Lake Ayalew, Yohannes Buayalew, Nigusu Tilahun, and Tsega Arage are the 13 members of the executive council. ADP, which formerly known as the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM), has renamed itself in this 12th session of the congress. It also changed its logo and emblem.
