MSE’s gearing up Public Understanding Towards Work Tradition, Productivity

 Addis Ababa May 13/2018 The effective implementation of micro and small scale enterprise in Ethiopia has brought visible positive impacts related to work tradition and enhanced productivity of the public, according to Federal Urban Job Creation and Food Security Agency.
 Government with its development programs prioritize in micro and small enterprises so as to create massive job opportunity, accelerate poverty reduction and facilitate industrial development. However, some micro and small business enterprises phased out prematurely mainly due to the misconceptions that the youth used to hold against it. Yet a number of strong and committed micro and small scale enterprises have practically disproved those obsolete views and continue to flourish. After graduating with a bachelor of degree in mechanical engineering in 2015, Tewdros Hailu and his four friends had to drift in search of employment to which they were inauspicious to find one. After inauspicious start, they settled to the idea of joining hands and set up a joint venture company to win their livelihood. Chairman of the company, Tewodros Hailu told ENA that youth should indulge to work by themselves or forming micro and small scale enterprise than await long some firm to employ them. “There is no good reason for the youth to stay for long and at times ineffective office hours while they can engage in start-up their own business and unleash their potential by facing challenges,” he noted. According to him, the company started business with initial capital of half a million birr loan and a working shade with essential training obtained from government. Over the last four months, the share company has created additional four job opportunity for new employees. Recalling that all before they graduated had the plan to be entrepreneurs, Tewodros   said “my friends and I decided to establish the share company in order to realize our dream.” We will certainly be successful since we have a plan to achieve and our daily engagements are in accordance to our plan, he emphasized. He encourages the youth to dare and face challenges for there are plenty untapped opportunities around those who dare to take risks of attempting. Federal Urban Job Creation and Food Security Agency Director-General, Zenebe Kumo said besides facilitating poverty reduction micro and small scale enterprises are setting off the public’s inappropriate work tradition. “We are observing some exemplary micro and small enterprises that has practically changed the deep-rooted negative attitude of people,” Zenebe added. Data shows that close to half a million enterprises benefiting more than 2.3 million citizens have so far been set up since the beginning of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan. In addition to that over 275,000 thousand university and TVET graduates have secured jobs during that particular period. According to Director-General, graduates of universities are actively involving currently in micro and small scale enterprises as they come to understanding the immense benefit. The national micro and small enterprise development strategy is aimed at reducing poverty and creating massive job opportunities by integrating skill, knowledge and available resources.
