Peace Corps Volunteers to be Deployed in Regional States

Addis Ababa September 06/2018 Some 37 Peace Corps volunteers that will work for two years in health, agriculture and education sectors were sworn in at the U.S Embassy today. The volunteers will be deployed in Oromia, Amhara, Tigray and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples regions. U.S Embassy Charge d’Affaires Troy Fitrell said during the swear-in ceremony that the US helps the Ethiopian people to achieving their goals through their partnership. “The Ethiopian people are absolutely capable of achieving their goals, and through our partnership, the United States can help them to do it”, he noted. Fitrell added that “Ethiopians are more optimistic than ever before with good reason. They have a government that has firmly committed itself to pursue democratic and economic reform and respect the rights of all Ethiopians.” The Peace Corps volunteers are investing the next two years of their lives by offering their time, expertise and their involvement as members of their host communities, he noted. Peace Corps Country Director, Brannon T. Brewer said on his part that it is the time for Peace Corps Volunteers to improve opportunity for others and to understand and appreciate other cultures and values. According to him, the team is highly dedicated to improve Ethiopian and American partnership by sharing values and cultures. Over the years, more than 3,600 Peace Corps volunteers have served in Ethiopia.
