Ethio-India Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting Kicks off

Addis Ababa May 09/2018 The second Ethio-India joint ministerial commission meeting that aimed at discussing ways of boosting ties started today in New Delhi. The meeting has focused on enhancing collaboration in regional and global issues particularly peace and security as well as strengthening the bilateral cooperation in science and technology. It is also expected to review the progress made since the first joint ministerial commission meeting held in New Delhi in 2010. Speaking on the occasion, Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu called for the friendship of the two countries to grow in the strategic direction. A Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be signed at the two-day meeting to support the Ethiopian diplomatic institutions, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Indian Government supports Ethiopia in capacity building and it has expressed interest to support the later in space science. The two countries that began diplomatic relations in 1948 have built strong relations. Trade exchange between the two countries has reached over 500 million USD. Some 427 Indian companies that are licensed to work in Ethiopia have invested over 4 billion USD, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
