Sahlework Lauds Late Tanzanian President for His Efforts in Fighting Corruption

Addis Ababa March 22/2021 (ENA) President Sahlework Zewdie praised the late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli as a ‘forefront leader in fighting against corruption’ and developed a strong work ethics.

President Sahlework extended her condolences today at the embassy of Tanzania in Addis Ababa to the people of Tanzania who are observing a period of mourning following the sudden death of President John Magufuli.

Condoling the president’s family, people and government of Tanzania, Sahlework said Africa has lost a strong supporter of regional cooperation in East Africa.

President John Magufuli will be remembered for his efforts to bring development and peace to Tanzania, she added.

Noting that president Magufuli was a good friend of Ethiopia and its people, she recalled that he was completely healthy when she met him in Dar es Salaam before six weeks ago.

At the time, President Sahlework said “we had a fruitful discussion on how to enhance cooperation between the two countries.” 

She also said that Magufuli was aware of Ethiopia's position especially on the issue of the Grand Renaissance Dam and the Nile Initiative, adding that he had been working to convince other countries in this regard.

"We are all saddened by the loss of John Magufuli, a great leader with a deep love for his country and Africa," said President Sahlework.

In her condolence message at the embassy, ​​ she said President Magufuli's good character and his honor for his country, Africa as well as humanity would be always remembered.

Tanzania's President John Magufuli has died of heart complications on March 17 at the age of 61 at a hospital in Dar es Salaam, it was indicated.

Following his death, Tanzania has declared a 14-day national mourning period.
