USAID Says Providing Assistance for More Than One Million People in Tigray

Addis Ababa March 12/2021 (ENA) The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) disclosed that it has been providing emergency assistance for more than one million people affected by the conflict in Tigray since December, 2020.

The agency said in its Facebook today that the relief is being provided to the affected in partnership with Catholic Relief Services.  

“Using 848 trucks and hundreds of helping hands, we have provided 75 million pounds (or 34,000 metric tons) of food aid since December 2020, and we remain committed to helping many more,” it stated.

The Government of Ethiopia is urging the international community to enhance support to the on-going relief and reconstruction efforts in Tigray region.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 70 percent of the relief supply has so far been given by the government whereas donors made available only 30 percent.
