Ethiopia, World Bank Sign over 137 Million USD Grant Agreements

Addis Ababa March 10/2021 (ENA) Ethiopia and the World Bank have signed 14.85 Million USD and 122.5 Million USD grant agreements today.

Finance State Minister Yasmin Wohabrebbi and World Bank Country Director for Ethiopia Sudan, South Sudan and Eritrea Ousmane Dione signed the grant agreements totaling 137.35 million USD.

During the signing ceremony, Yasmin said the agreements will support the government’s effort in education amid the  COVID-19 pandemic.

According to her, the financial aid will help strengthen the government’s efforts in implementing the COVID-19 Education Response Project and the General Education Quality Improvement Program for Equity.

The 14.85 million USD will support the Education for the COVID-19 Education Response Project while the additional 122.5 million USD is for General Education Quality Improvement Program for Equity which has been under implementation since 2017, she explained.  

World Bank Country Director Dione noted that the grant agreements will help strengthen the government’s response to the education system amid the pandemic.

He further expressed the continued commitment of the World Bank to invest in Ethiopia’s education system.
