State Minister Receives Newly Appointed US Ambassador to Ethiopia

March 1/2021 (ENA) State Minister of Foreign Affairs Redwan Hussein has received a copy of the credential of the newly appointed US ambassador to Ethiopia, Geeta Pasi today.
On the occasion, the two sides noted the longstanding relationship that exists between the two countries and underlined the need to further strengthening it with various engagements, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Given some of the challenging situations in the country, Redwan said, Ethiopia understands the importance of tightening its friendship and cooperation with the US.
Redwan had also briefed the new US ambassador on the triggering factors that necessitated the law enforcement operation in the Tigray region and the objectives that the government has achieved so far.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the government of Ethiopia has been covering 70 percent of the humanitarian support in Tigray while aid agencies covered the rest.
Criticisms forwarded against the Ethiopian government’s handling of the humanitarian support in Tigray without sharing the burden or contributing a significant amount of support is neither helpful to the government of Ethiopia nor to the people who require help, the State Minister stressed.
Redwan expressed his hope that the international community, international organizations and concerned bodies, who had been keen on getting unfettered access to Tigray, would now exploit the opportunity to meet the humanitarian needs of affected people in the region.
Ambassador Geeta Pasi, on her part, thanked the State Minister for the briefing and affirmed that she would do her level best to scale up the relationship between the two countries.
