Washington D.C. Marks July 28 as “Day of Ethiopia in DC”

Addis Ababa July 29/2018 Mayor of Washington D.C., Muriel Bowser has proclaimed July 21 as a day of Ethiopia in DC while addressing Ethiopian Diaspora living in the United Sates. The Mayor has declared the day as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is in US to visit and speak to member of the Ethiopian community, presided over the Diaspora event. Premier Abiy, addressed more than 25,000 Ethiopian Diasporas at the convention center in Washington D.C. yesterday under the theme “Break the Wall, Build the Bridge.” Speaking at the occasion, the Mayor said since assuming power last April Premier Abiy striving at improving respect for human rights, making peace with Eritrea on the top of economic and political reforms would strengthen the efforts to build democratic society in Ethiopia. The Washington area is home to some 300,000 Ethiopians, making it the largest community outside Ethiopia, the Mayor noted. 'Ethiopians living in Washington D.C are contributing vital role for the city to come to reality," she said and adding that she will work to further strengthen the sisterhood relationships between Washington and Addis Ababa city. Prime Minister Abiy on his part said unity at its best results in a synergy can be productive that would help to proclaim the Ethiopian day as well. He called for unity among Ethiopian Diaspora residing in the United States and urged to blow up the wall of hatred for the best interest of their nation. During his visit, Premier Abiy has discussed with opposition political parties, Muslim and Orthodox religious leaders in the United States, US Vice President Mike Pence among the others.
