FM Demeke Hold Talks with Somali Counterpart

Addis Ababa January 29/2021 (ENA) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, Mohamed Abdirizak on Thursday.

The discussion focused on bilateral and regional issues of common concern, according to ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Demeke briefed his Somali counterpart on current situations in Ethiopia and the region, including preparations to hold the upcoming general election in the country.

Appreciating the longstanding relationship between the two neighboring countries, Demeke also pledged that Ethiopia would do its level best to take the relationship to a higher level.

Minister Mohamed Abdirizak on his part expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s pivotal role in stabilizing Somalia.

According to him, the federal government of Somalia is holding talks with regional governments on the upcoming elections in the country.

Recalling his government’s stance in understanding the law enforcement operation in Tigray as an internal affair of Ethiopia, he affirmed Somalia’s commitment to the joint efforts of the two countries in building and keeping peace in the region.
