Eritrea Appoints Ambassador to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa July 21/2018 Eritrea has appointed its first ambassador to Ethiopia in two decades, the government said on Saturday, Eritrean Press reported. President Isayas Afewerki appointed Semere Russom, Eritrea's current education minister. He has previously served as ambassador to the United States and Canada. Semere Russom is Eritrea’s first ambassador to Ethiopia in two decades, as the former foes pushed on with a rapprochement. Following Prime Minister Abiy Amed’s call for peace, leaders of both countries have moved swiftly to sweep away two decades of hostility. The two countries have signed agreement in Asmara this month to end hostilities, re-establish diplomatic ties and re-enforce economic relationship. Ethiopia appointed Redwan Hussien, former Ethiopian ambassador to Ireland, to represent it in Eritrea and President Isayas reopened Eritrean embassy in Addis Ababa this week.
