Opposition Party Chief Dr. Aregawi Berhe Returns Home

Addis Ababa July 07/2018 Members of the opposition Tigray Democratic Coalition Party, including the party chief Dr. Aregawi Berhe, have returned home today. Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, delegation of the party was welcomed by Government Communication Affairs State Minister Kassahun Gofe and other officials. Speaking during the occasion, Dr. Aregawi said the party decided to return home and lead peaceful struggle because it supports the ongoing democratic and unity drive the government pursues. He added that all who want to accelerate the reform led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed should work in cooperation. Dr. Aregawi, who stated that his party has been struggling in a spirit of Ethiopianness for many years abroad, added that the party is ready to work with all who aspire to consolidate the struggle for the prevalence of democracy and unity in the country. According to him, the people of Tigray will collaborate with their compatriot Ethiopians for the success of this reform as they support the process. Dr. Aregawi has called on all Ethiopians to fight back the destructive opinions targeted by certain quarters against the people of Tigray. Government Communication Affairs State Minister Kassahun Gofe said on his part the government supports parties that struggle peacefully. He further called on political parties to cooperate with the government for the sustained growth of the country. The return of scholars like Dr. Aregawi Berhe who cares for the unity and growth of Ethiopia is useful for the change underway, he added. Dr.Aregawi was one of the founders of TPLF.
