Ethiopia Ready to Grow Together with Eritrea: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa June 27/2018 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia is keen to end hostilities and ensure mutual development with Eritrea pay the necessary sacrifice it inquires. In his speech at a dinner reception at the national palace, the Premier said Ethiopia is ready to pay the necessary sacrifice for love in order to end hostilities. "Ethiopia has huge desire to pay every sacrifice necessary for love in order to grow together with Eritrea," he said. “There is nothing equitable to love, and in this regard, the problems that the countries will encounter are minor,” he emphasized. Abiy said “We will not inherit grudge and hatred to our children, but love and peace” as hatred has resulted in socio-economic loss and mistrust between the two countries. The Premier said “this is a response to the tremendous zeal of sustaining the brotherly ties of the two countries.” Saying that the day marks the "tearing away of the black curtain that was hanging for years", the Premier called on the people in both sides to be ready for reunion. Eritrean Foreign Minister, Osman Saleh said the day is a joyful one for it is starting to congregate the people that had lived together again after being separated for about two generations. “We have lost many opportunities, peace among our two brotherly people over the last 27 years, but we must strive towards creating new ones that cannot be reversed by any situation,” Osman stressed. “Eritreans are as joyful as their Ethiopian brothers in retaining the peaceful relationships,” he said. Special Advisor to the Eritrean President, Yemane Gebreab said that “this clearly signifies the commitment and readiness in closing the old and opening a new chapter.” Admitting that there could be issues that require negotiations, Yemane said “in comparison to the grand commitment taken by both countries, the problems are minor.” “There is no worse thing than living separately for the last 27 years” said Keria Ibrahim, Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Federation, said Keria said “we cannot be considered as leaders if we cannot resolve the situation with love and togetherness,” asserting the need to reconciliation. Government officials, religious leaders, renowned athletes, and artist took part in the state dinner served for the Eritrean delegation.
