Nation Confirms 7 Deaths, 245 New COVID-19 Cases

Addis Ababa June 5/2020 Ethiopia has reported 7 new deaths and the highest single-day record of 245 COVID-19 new cases out of the 5,709 samples tested over the last 24 hours.

In its daily update today, Ministry of Health announced that 6 samples of the 7 dead were taken from the deceased persons.

Out of the newly confirmed 172 male and 73 female cases with ages ranging from 1-85 years, 241 are Ethiopians and the remaining 4 foreigners.

Some 190 of the infected are from the capital city, 17 from Oromia, 16 from Somali, 15 from Tigray , 4 from SNNPR, and 3 from Amhara regional states.

“Anyone of us can be the next person to aquire COVID-19, but we can prevent it if we act now,” warned the ministry, adding that COVID-19 cases are "rapidly increasing across Ethiopia due to the presence of community transmission."

A total of 47 persons have died in the country from COVID-19.

The number of COVID-19 cases has increased by ten fold within a month, it was indicated.

Meanwhile, 17 patients have recovered, raising the overall number of recoveries to 451.

Currently, there are 2,415 patients in the COVID-19 treatment centers with 38 patients in severe conditions.

Ethiopia has  conducted a total of 170,860 tests and confirmed 2,915 total cases since March 2020 to date.
