Ethiopia Launches Door-to-Door COVID-19 Screening

Addis ababa, April 13/2020(ENA) Ethiopia launched a door-to-door mass COVID-19 screening across the country in a bid to contain the spread of the pandemic.

The temperature screening has begun in various regional states amid the number of coronavirus cases in Ethiopia increased to 74.

In the capital Addis Ababa the temperature screening has started in 117 Woredas that are potentially vulnerable to the virus.

Some 1,200 retired physicians who responded to the call of the government are jointly embarked on the temperature screening with other health workers in the city.

Ethiopia has intensified various preventative measures including banning large gatherings, closuring of schools, raising awareness on frequently washing hands and social distancing to curb the spread of COVID-19 epidemic.

Moreover, the government declared state of emergency and announced directives for the implementation of the state of emergency to pin down the spread of the virus.

In Africa, COVID-19 has spread to 52 out of the 54 countries where South Africa, Egypt and Algeria the worst-hit in the continent respectively.

According to the latest report of Africa Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of people tested positive for coronavirus reached 13,814.
