Muslims in Addis Vow to Intensify Efforts in Sustaining Peace, Unity

Addis Ababa June 15/2018 Muslim communities in Addis Ababa celebrated Eid al-Fitr expressed their commitment to intensify efforts in sustaining peace, and unity of the country. Tens of thousands Ethiopian Muslims congregated at Addis Ababa stadium on Friday to celebrate Eid-al Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan with prayers. During the celebration, Ethiopian Muslim participants expressed their readiness to make all possible efforts to sustain and protect the nation’s peace by further developing the culture of tolerance, and mutual respect. Yassin Rajue, who participated on Eid celebration, told ENA that religious leaders should play their role in sustaining and protect the peace and unity of the country through preaching young generation on how to promote mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Ethiopia is a country with religious plurality and the people live in harmony for ages, he said, and added that Ethiopian Muslims should stand mindful against extremist attitudes. He urged Ethiopians to value peace and called on Muslims to play their role in ensuring peace and stability in the country and boost up their engagement in the country's economic growth. Another participant, Sheikh Mohammed Asirar said on his part that he is ready along with the rest Muslim community to contribute his part in sustaining peace and stability across the country. He said the tolerance among Ethiopia’s diverse religions including the Muslim and Christian communities is commendable, that need the young generation to uphold. Likewise, Abdullah Mohammed Abdi insisted on the Muslims to remember and care for needy people on the top of sustaining the long standing peaceful co-existence in the country. Reports indicated that Ethiopia has the second most populous Muslim community in Sub-Saharan Africa.
