Ethiopian Leaders Express Condolences over the Death of Citizens

Addis Ababa , March 25/2020( ENA) Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Sahlework Zewdie have expressed their condolences on the death of Ethiopians crammed inside a cargo container in Mozambique. 

Premier Abiy tweeted that “I learned with a heavy heart of the deaths of many enroute to Mozambique from Malawi.”  

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia is closely working with the relevant authorities to find out the identities and other details of the deceased,” he said.

President Sahlework Zewdie on her part tweeted that she was deeply saddened to learn the death of Ethiopians in horrible condition.

“A truck transporting illegal immigrants from Malawi, suspected to be Ethiopians, was stopped at the Mussacana weight bridge in Tete, and 64 people were found dead. Only 14 survived,” a Mozambican official reported.

Mozambique is generally seen as a smuggling corridor for migrants seeking to make their way to South Africa.
