First Phase of Mojo-Hawassa Expressway to be completed in Five Months


ENA,March 4/2012 The first phase of the 56.6 kilometer Mojo-Hawassa Expressway will be completed within the coming five months, according to Ethiopian Roads Authority.

The 202-kilometers expressway, which will be connected with Addis-Adama Expressway, is   being built with an outlay of 13.58 billion Birr.

According to the Ethiopian Roads Authority, the expressway is constructed in four phases. Of these, the first phase launched in 2016 will be completed within the coming five months.

Some 88 percent of the 56.6-kilometer Mojo-Meki road under construction is 88 percent completed, while 79 percent of the 37-kilometer Meki-Zway has been finalized.

The Mojo-Hawassa Expressway will help transport easily industrial and agricultural products to domestic and foreign markets.

The expressway is part of the 10,000 kilometers East Africa Corridor that connects Egypt to South Africa passing through Cairo, Addis Ababa, Moyale, Nairobi, and Mombasa.
