Authority Awards over 13 Billion Birr Road Projects to Contractors

Addis Ababa June 09/2018 The Ethiopia Roads Authority (ERA) has concluded agreements with local and foreign companies which will build 749kms asphalt roads at a cost of 13.3 billion birr. ERA had floated international tenders to select capable construction companies that carry out the projects which will be fully financed by the Ethiopian government. Winners of the tender and ERA inked the agreements yesterday. Accordingly, the agreements were made between ERA and 4 local and 5 foreign contractors. During the signing ceremony, Ethiopian Roads Authority Director-General Araya Girmay said various projects have been carried out to meet the goal set by the Second Growth and Transformation Plan to expand road access across the country. Since the launching of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan 34 months ago, 7,916 kms long new roads were built and heavy roads maintenance carried out, Araya added. The 9 new road projects will be built in Amhara, Oromia, Somali, SNNP, and Benishangul-Gumuz regional states. The projects are expected to be completed within four years.
