Ethiopia’s PM in Uganda in Official Visit

Addis Ababa June 08/2018 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in Kampala today for a two-day official visit. During his stay, the Premier is expected to discuss with President Yoweri Museveni on ways of further boosting bilateral relations and cooperation. Ethiopia and Uganda that are working to ensure peace and security in the region under the umbrella of IGAD are also expected to discuss on regional issues. The two countries are working to restore peace and security in South Sudan and Somalia. They are among the countries that contribute troops to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and fighting the al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group al-Shabaab. Prime Minister Abiy is also expected to attend the National Heroes Day to be marked on Saturday. On 9 June, the people of Uganda celebrate National Heroes Day each year. It is designed to honor those who played a major role in creating a better future for the people of Uganda. President Yuweri Musevini is expected to award Abiy with the country's highest honorary medal, which is awarded to heads of state and government. Prime Minister Abiy who came to power in April, has visited several neighboring and other countries in a bid to consolidate relationship and cooperation. Djibouti, Sudan, Kenya and Saudi Arabia were among the countries he visited since he took office.
