Ethiopian, Australian MPs Discuss Relations, Cooperation

Addis Ababa June 07/2018 Australia is interested to share its experiences in agriculture and mining sectors to Ethiopia, Delegation Head of Members of Australian Parliament Andrew Broad said. A delegation of Australian MPs and HPR Foreign Affairs Standing Committee Members held talks today on how to deepen the existing cooperation between the countries in general and in agriculture and mines in particular. MP Broad said his country has very good experience in agriculture and mining sectors and he expressed his willingness to share the experience. “We want many Ethiopian students to come to Australia and study,” he added. According to him, Australians are also interested to invest in agriculture and mining sectors in Ethiopia. HPR Foreign Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson Tesfaye Daba briefed the delegation about the investment opportunities in Ethiopia and the current situation of the country. Noting that Ethiopia and Australia have very longstanding relationship,  Tesfaye stated that Australia is Ethiopia's strategic partner. “So, I think we have   many opportunities we can make use of from Australia.” Pointing out that coffee, sesame, hides and skins are among the agricultural commodities that Ethiopia exports, he invited Australian business through the MPs to come and invest in the country. The Chairperson underlined the need for further strengthening people-to-people relations in order to consolidate the ties between the nations. Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Australia began in 1954.
