Ministry Briefs Diplomatic Community about Recent Developments

Addis Ababa June 07/2018 Foreign Affairs State Minister, Hirut Zemene has briefed Addis based diplomats yesterday on the recent decisions made by the Executive Committee of EPRDF. In her briefing, Hirut told diplomats that the Executive Council has agreed to fully accept, the Algiers Agreement and the decisions of the Ethiopia Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC) and its effective implementation based on relevant international legal instruments. Hirut emphasized that the council’s decision was to end the current “no war no peace” situation between Ethiopia and Eritrea and to restore the long standing and blood related ties between the two people. Moreover, the State Minister pointed out that the Council has also decided to fully or partially privatize some public enterprises aimed at enhancing the involvement of both local and foreign private sectors. Ethio-Telecom, Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopian Electric Power, Maritime Transport and Logistics Enterprise, sugar industries, railway projects and industrial parks are among companies to be privatized. The poor export performance over the last few years which in turn have led to foreign currency crunch was evaluated, she said, and added that remedial decisions were made to enhance the production capacity of agriculture and industry sectors with special emphasis on export.
