Parliament Endorses Electoral, Political Parties Proclamation

Addis Ababa ENA August 24/2019 The House of People's Representatives (HPR) has approved today the draft proclamation on Ethiopian Electoral and Political Parties .

The endorsed electoral and political parties bill would govern the activities of political parties during election.

The proclamation states that the document will help Ethiopia to conduct a peaceful, fair, reliable and democratic election. It is expected to help strong political parties to emerge in the country.

According to the approved law, a national political party shall be formed if it has can secure the signatures of at least 10,000 persons.

Similarly, a regional political party is required to obtain 5,000 signatures.

The above articles, which arose debate among the public recently, were also endorsed after a rigorous discussion.
