Nation Allocates 477 Mn Birr for Execution of Innovative Phase of Seqota Declaration

Addis  Ababa August 9/2019 Ethiopia has allotted 477 million birr for the implementation of the Innovation Phase of the Seqota Declaration in the fiscal year 2012.

This was disclosed at the Second High-level Forum of the Seqota Declaration held yesterday to review the implementation of the First High-level Forum recommendations and endorse the third year plan of the declaration.

The allotted budget will be used to execute multi-sectoral interventions which include construction of small-scale irrigation, all-weather rural roads and formal classes, production of fruits and vegetables, and nutrient dense pluses.

Moreover, livestock production, establishment of nutrition corners at model farmer training centers and other nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions that have high impact on stunting reduction are also among the major activities that will be implemented through the allocated budget, a press release of the Seqota Declaration said.

The budget, which is expected to be matched with equivalent amount of birr from the Amhara and Tigray regional states, is based on the priorities identified during the inter-ministerial visits conducted from March 11-14, 2019 in five Amhara and Tigray Seqota Declaration woredas.

This third year Innovative Phase Plan will be implemented in 27 Amhara and 13 Tigray Seqota Declaration woredas found along the Tekeze Rivers Basin by seven implementing ministries as well as development partners working on the declaration woredas.

Over 429,200 people in total will be reached through safe water supply, 405,422 students learning in Das schools will learn in standard classes, 415,219 pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 will get better nutrition and health services through the implementation this project.

Also, 130,000 people will get access to roads, 89,578 households will benefit through the production of nutrient dense crops and small-scale irrigation, and 414,728 women, children and adolescent girls will be addresses through different economic and social intervention.
