Addis Ababa August 1/2019Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dina Mufti, said Ethiopia is working on further scaling up its historical relations with Egypt.
In his exclusive interview with the Egyptian newspaper Al Akhbar on July 30, 2019, Ambassador Dina explained about the current level of performance on Ethiopia’s flagship project — the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, progress of the reforms in Ethiopia, the government efforts to bring women to higher leadership, and other issues of mutual interest.
The ambassador also took up important issues that would help to further promote the relationship between the two countries by fostering people-to-people relations.
He further mentioned the visits made by Prime Minister Abiy to Egypt in June 2018 and the subsequent visit of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. in February 2019 were instrumental in advancing the comprehensive relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Dina stated that the recent visit made to Ethiopia by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, has also helped to further cement the relations between the countries by creating a spirit of mutual confidence between the leaders.
The visit paid to Cairo by Foreign Minister Gedu Andargatachew to deliver a special message from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.of Egypt was important.
Taking into consideration the long historical ties between the countries, however, efforts are being exerted to bolster the relationship between the countries as it is not at the desired level.
