Ethiopia Launches Massive Tree Planting Campaign

Addis Ababa ENA July 29/2019Ethiopia launched massive tree planting campaign on Monday, with a target to plant 200 million tree saplings a day to hit the world record.

The “Green legacy”, which is a national 4 billion trees planting project was officially initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on May 26, 2019.

Today Ethiopia is working on planting 200 million tree saplings within a day surpassing the record set by India in 2017.

The city of Addis Ababa only has so far planted one million seedlings this morning.

The green legacy project is a national afforestation program designed to encourage people to plant more trees and improve forest coverage of the country thereby by  show Ethiopia’s commitment to green development.

Millions of people are participating all over the country in the campaign that started early this morning.

The 4 billion tree planting project will cover the country’s 2.3 percent area by forest.

Since the launch of the 4 billion trees planting green legacy project, the country has planted 2.6 billion trees slated, according to Ministry of Agriculture.
