EPRDF Determined to Maintain National Security, Ensuring Rule of Law

Addis Ababa May 17/2019 The Executive Committee of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has affirmed on Thursday it will meticulously work to maintain national security and ensuring rule of law across the country.

The Executive Committee has concluded its meeting after a two-day deliberation and reviewing a year-long of the success and challenges experienced in the implementation of a national security reform during that period.

During its deliberation, the committee acclaimed the achievements that the country has gained over the past one year, adding that “the return of opposition political parties who were in exile and the rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea as key gains made after the reform.”

Comprehensive institutional reforms undertaken in the security organs, including the reshuffling of leadership, and more importantly the reforms carried out to modernize the defense forces, it was said.

The committee, however, stated that the country has experienced security challenges including emerging ethnic polarization, illicit smuggling of weapons and circulation of fake news through social media, despite a magnificent success stories that the ongoing reforms has brought.

According to the committee, those violent activities have been resulting in loss of lives and displacements as well as posed threat for the national security.

After the discussion, the Committee also set future directions in order maintaining national security and ensuring rule of law which are government’s priority agendas, it underscored the need to rigorous efforts to ensure the wellbeing of the people.
