FM Gedu Meets Sudan's TMC Chairman

Addis Ababa May 6/2019 Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, held talks with Lt. General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan (TMC) on Sunday.

According to Ministry of Foreign affairs, Gedu reaffirmed Ethiopia's firm commitment to support the people of Sudan based on the principles of non-interference and respect for sovereignty.

He reiterated that Ethiopia as a chair of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will exert all efforts to work closely with the AU and the international community at large to support peaceful and inclusive transition process in the Sudan.

 Lt. General Abdul Fattah Al Burhan, on his part appreciated the support given by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the warm welcome extended to the delegation of the TMC on its visit to Ethiopia last month.

He added that Ethiopia and its people are the closest to Sudan and the strong and historical relations between the two sisterly countries will continue regardless of changes in government.

In related news, Foreign Minister, Gedu Andargachew also held talks with representatives of the forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change in Khartoum.

Gedu reaffirmed that Ethiopia supports the wish and aspirations of the people of Sudan based on the principles of non-interference and respect for sovereignty and reiterated that the transition process should be inclusive.

The Minister also stressed that the People of Sudan are capable of handling their internal affairs by themselves.
