Ethiopia Marks 78th Patriot’s Victory Day

Addis Ababa May 5/2019 Ethiopia marked today the 78th anniversary of Patriots’ Victor over fascist Italian at the national level in Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa where the monument to commemorate the victory and the patriots erected.

Ethiopian patriots defeated fascist Italian aggressor and maintain the territorial integrity of Ethiopia in 1941 and May 5th marked the end of Italian occupation.

The victory day was celebrated in the presence of President Sahle-Work Zewde, representatives of Ethiopian Patriots’ Association, veterans of the war of resistance, residents of the city, government officials and diplomats.

Addressing the crowds gathered to commemorate the day, President Sahle-Work said the current generation has to be able to move the country forward in spite of some respected different views as their brave ancestors had done.

“Our ancestors was in state of wrestling not only to ensure their rights; more so the rights of other human being, particularly the black people,” the president said.

With a strong yearning for taking possession of Ethiopia, which was the only sovereign African nation, Italy started war against Ethiopia in October 1935.

Fascist Italy had five years occupation, however, the period was situated by stiff resistance by Ethiopia brave patriots and the war ended with victory of Ethiopian patriots.

It was recalled that Ethiopia under Menilik II leadership Italian aggressor was successfully defeated at the battle of Adwa in 1896.
