Addis  Ababa  May  02/2019 The first annual “Great African Run” in Washington DC will take place on July 21, 2019 marking Ethiopian Day, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in U.S.A.

At a press briefing held yesterday, Ambassador Fitsum Arega said the event is a day which will be celebrated together with African brothers and sisters.

He added that the event supports the effort started by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to strengthen the bondage in the Horn of Africa and further help Africans to get closer.

Ambassador Fitsum pointed out that the event is going to be beyond a one-day race that creates strong bondage among the African people.

Organizer of the Great African Run and Board Chairperson, Gashaw Abeza said many participants are expected to take part in the 5 km run.

He added that the race is prepared to engage Africans through sports and various cultural festivities.

Office for the African Union (AU) Washington DC Head, Arikana Chihombori said strengthening the bondage among Africans using such a platform gives meaning to the efforts and hard work for athletics.

She added that the event is part of the 2063 agenda of increasing diaspora engagement in Africa.

Famous African athletes, musicians, politicians, religious leaders, and celebrities are expected to participate in the competition.
