Civil Society Organizations Asked to Get Registered within One Year

Addis Ababa April 25/2019 Civil society organizations operating in Ethiopia have to get registered within a year, Agency for Civil Society Organizations said.

Accordingly, it urged all organizations active in the country to fulfill formalities and register within a year starting from April 22, 2019.

Briefing journalists today, Agency Director-General Jima Dilbo disclosed that the agency has started implementing the Revised Civil Society Organizations Proclamation approved recently by the House of People's Representatives.

It guarantees civil society organizations rights to engage in any lawful activity that benefit society and complies with the law, he added.

Agency Deputy Director-General, Fassikaw Molla said on his part “an organization unable to register during the stated time will not have legal ground to continue as a civil society organization.”

Registration of organizations is required in order to comply with the revised proclamation.

There are about 4,000 civil society organizations in Ethiopia, it was learned.
