Ministry Helps 1151 Ethiopians to Return Home in One Week

Addis Ababa April 25/2019 Some 1,151 Ethiopians, who were living in foreign countries under difficult conditions, have reportedly returned home in a week.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Nebiyat Getachew said the returnees are from Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

Of the total, 850 lived in Saudi Arabia without residential permit, 288 were in prisons in Tanzania and 13 in Yemen.

According to the spokesperson, the release of the Ethiopian nationals demonstrates the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of citizens.

Nebiyat raised Tanzania as an example by stating that it took several rounds of talks with Tanzanian officials to get them released.

The transport and accommodations of the returnees were covered by International Organization for Migration.
