Addis Ababa April 12/2019 Ethiopia is closely following the current developments in neighboring Sudan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed.
The Ministry has issued a statement as Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced ousting of President Omar al-Bashir on Thursday.
The statement states that “Ethiopia is closely following current developments in sisterly neighboring country, the Sudan.”
Ethiopia fully understands and respects the wishes of the Sudanese people and stands by them, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the statement “Ethiopia expresses its confidence that the Sudanese will surmount this difficult moment,” adding that “Ethiopia fully respects the sovereignty and political independence of Sudan and sincerely hopes that all Sudanese political stakeholders will find a peaceful solution to the problem.” The demonstrations against rising cost of living in Sudan started in December and quickly escalated to calls to the end of the 30-year rule of President al-Bashir.
