Draft Education Roadmap to be Finalized Next Month, Says Minister of Education

Addis Ababa April 05/2019 The first draft of Ethiopia’s education roadmap will be completed next month and presented for final discussion with the pertinent stakeholders, according to Ministry of Education.

Briefing journalist today, Education Minister Tilaye Gete said about 3.5 million people have discussed the education road map so far and the discussion have cleared various ambiguous issues, received inputs and identified critical areas to focus on.

He noted that the roadmap was developed and finalized over the one year leadership by Prime Minister Abiy who promised to improve the education and training system of the country.

During the year about 1,363 female professionals were also assigned to be school directors after receiving training at nationwide level, the minister revealed.

Tilaye added that 540 million USD was obtained in loan and grant from international development partners to support the education system in the same period.

According to him, the major challenge that the ministry faced was when over 1.1 million students were displaced due to conflicts in various parts of the country.

The ministry has been supporting the victims by providing about 63.5 million worth clothes, teaching and learning materials, Tilaye pointed out.

Besides, 1.2 million students were supported through school feeding program.

The minister added that expanding the number of high schools, licensing teachers, school directors and supervisors, improving schools capacity and levels as well as conducting education researches have also been performed in the year.
