Contending Party Calls on Gov’t to Ensure Rule of Law, Safety of Citizens

Addis Ababa March 21/2019 Unity for Democracy and Justice Party (CUD) has called on the government to ensure the rule of law and safety of citizens.

CUD Chairman Tigistu Awolu told journalists today that “measures should be taken to stop conflicts and maintain peace and order.”

“Democracy and widening of political space will remain mere talk” unless the supremacy of rule of law is upheld, he stressed.

Tigistu noted that “rule of law cannot and should not be put aside in the name of reform.”

Speaking of the conflicts in some parts of the country, the chairman called on all political parties that are ruling the regional states to come together and genuinely discuss about bringing lasting peace.

Tigistu pointed out that citizens, regardless of age, gender, and ethnicity, need to join hands to support the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
