Addis Ababa January 19/2019 Ethiopian diplomats across the world need to prioritize synergizing the motivation within the Diaspora, Ambassador Fitsum Arega said.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, Ambassador Fitsum said the Ethiopian Diaspora supports the ongoing reform and they started to see a better future.

Fitsum, the newly appointed ambassador to the U.S. said Ethiopian diplomats should work to sustain the motivation created due to the ongoing reform.

“So, we would likely to work closely with them and ensure what is possible ahead of us. We will work together to build Ethiopia’s image and to increase our tourism,” he pointed out.

Large number of Diasporas visited Ethiopia for the first time in decades, Ambassador Fitsum stated, and added “this is going to be a wonderful opportunity to heal the wounds and create good start.”

According to him, Diasporas in the U.S. have the potential to bring more investment to Ethiopia and enhance export from Ethiopia through becoming agents and even partners.

He added that Ethiopia is starting digital diplomacy in order to further its diplomatic activities.

“At the moment it is all about speeding up and reaching out to people we would like to reach. So, we are just trying to do our best in that [digital diplomacy] regard,” he noted.

Speaking of the need to revise the foreign policy, Ambassador Fitsum pointed out the need to revise the foreign policy in respect to the changes that are happening in the region as well as the world.

Ethiopian diplomats from across the world have concluded their five-day long discussion on directives that guide the country’s foreign relation activities.
