Addis Ababa January 19/2019 Ethiopian diplomats should transform the country’s diplomatic activities in order to promote the image of Ethiopia that elevated due to the reform, Ambassador Taye Atsekeselassie said.

Ambassador Taye, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, told ENA “the political development that has been going on has indeed promoted the profile of Ethiopia to the highest level.”

Having said that Ambassador Taye pointed out “what is expected from our diplomats is that to live up to that expectation.”

The Permanent Representative has also urged the need to transform way of doing diplomatic activities.

The international community supported Ethiopia’s changing political landscape over the last 9 months, the Permanent Representative said.

He said “we have indeed dwelt upon how to build on that political leverage and properly accentuate the interest of Ethiopia.”

He said that enhancing Ethiopia’s cooperation across the globe should be intensively tapped, he said.

However, Ambassador Taye stressed that emphasis should be given to enhancing cooperation with neighboring countries.

“But the major focuses by and large on how we can collaboratively work with our neighboring countries. Indeed it is one of the major focuses of our foreign policy.”

The five-day discussions on directives regarding foreign activities that Ethiopian diplomats held in Addis Ababa would help to realize that, he added.

Diplomats who are serving in Ethiopian missions abroad have been discussing on issues that need priority in the foreign relations of the country.

It is to be recalled that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on January, 14, 2019 briefed long serving and newly appointed ambassadors about the priorities.
