Addis AbabaJanuary 05/2019 Teachers are prominent ambassadors of peace who should play due role in ensuring peace and harmony, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said.

Responding to questions raised by participant teachers of the National Teachers Conference held today, the premier said no other professional is better qualified than teachers to speak about the countless benefits of peace.

“You, teachers, should focus on nurturing students that safeguard peace because governments can only disarm weapons and not the attitude of the people,” the PM noted.

He stated that peace is critical for Africa and “we, unlike any other country in the continent, have created Ministry of Peace to address the issue.”

According to Abiy, “the Ethiopia we all desire can only be realized through significant role of teachers.”

He further expressed his confidence that teachers do not compromise on matters of national interests.

Aspiring and dreaming to seize power through the gun is outdated, the premier stressed, pointing out that political struggle should only be carried out peacefully.

Abiy underscored that his government is still ready to provide extra support for political parties that are committed to peaceful political struggle.
