Ethiopian Employers Confederation Established

Addis Ababa May 23/2018 Ethiopian Employers’ Confederation, which brought together five employer’s federations in the country, was established today. During the establishment meeting, Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions President Kassahun Follo said the new confederation would enhance sustainable cooperation and smooth social interaction between employers and employees. The President added that through promoting domestic and foreign investors, the confederation will create entrepreneurs and competent employers at the domestic as well as international market. He further stated that the rights of employees and employers should fully be respected for the sustainable development of the country and peaceful industry zone. International Labor Organization (ILO) Director George Okutho said the federation could be all inclusive and provide the demand driven services of employers and employees. ILO will support the confederation so that it can bring productivity, peace and stability for the country, the director added. Labor and Social Affairs Minister Hirut Woldemariam said employers play key role in promoting investment, building the economic development, good governance as well as democracy in the country. The ministry will work together with the confederation for the benefit of the public, she stated. The founding members of the Employers’ Confederation are Ethiopian Hotels and Related Service; Ethiopian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; Ethiopian Urban Water and Sewerage Service; Amhara Region; and Addis Ababa City federations.
