Netherlands, Ethiopia Signs 19.6 Mln euros Grant Agreement

Addis Ababa May 23/2018 The Government of the Netherlands and Ethiopia have signed a 19.6 Million euro grant agreement today to finance public health infrastructure development. The grant will be used specifically for the construction of Cardiac Care Centr that will be built in Addis Ababa, at Black Lion Hospital. State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation Admasu Nebebe and Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ethiopia Van Loosdrecht on behalf of Ethiopia and his government have signed the agreement. Speaking at the signing ceremony, State Minister, Admasu said the agreement signed between Ethiopia and Netherlands is vital to the country’s public health infrastructure development as it is striving to address non-communicable disease. He said that the main objective of the project is to expand access quality public health infrastructure by establishing a sustainable and equitable cardiac center. Ambassador Van Loosdrecht also said that the government of Netherlands is committed to support health infrastructure development in Ethiopia. In this regard, the construction of the cardiac care center at the Black Lion hospital is part of the Netherlands government aspiration to improve Ethiopia’s health infrastructure, he said. According to him, both countries have agreed to jointly finance the construction of the cardiac centr and the government of Netherlands will finance the state of building. Furthermore, he indicated that the Netherlands government will also cover technical and consultancy services in addition to the financing support. The centr is modern in its kind and will have some 94 beds and 3 operating fields, he indicated. Philip Company, a Dutch multinational technology company headquartered in Amsterdam focused in the area of healthcare, will be responsible for the construction of the project, he said. The construction of the cardiac center will be completed by mid 2020.
