Ethiopia Advocates Green Legacy Initiative at High-Level Climate Change Summit in Djibouti

Addis Ababa October 24/2022 /ENA/ Representing Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the Minister of Peace, Benalf Andualem, attended the "Climate Change and Research: The Path to Sustainable Adaptation and Resilience" High-Level Summit in Djibouti.

The three-day climate summit convened on ways to devise feasible solutions to the existing climate crisis by finding a path to sustainable adaptation and resilience.

President Ismail Guelleh launched the Summit in the presence of the president of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and representatives from East African countries and international organizations.

In his official opening remarks at the summit, President Ismail Guelleh commended the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Djibouti.

"The Republic of Djibouti has built an interconnecting line to harness clean hydroelectric power in partnership with Ethiopia," he said.

Minister of Peace, Benalf Andualem, for his part, shared Ethiopia's experience in mitigating climate change through prevention strategies such as promoting the Green Legacy Initiative.

Later in the panel discussion, the Minister of Peace praised the Government of Djibouti's leadership for joining hands with Ethiopia to expand the Green Legacy Initiative.

The Summit recognized the exemplary climate change prevention measures Ethiopia has been undertaking, particularly through its Green Legacy Initiative.

Three rounds of tree planting ceremonies took place in Djibouti, with the Ethiopian government presenting a quarter of a million seedlings, accelerating green economy integration between the two countries, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
